It have been introduced during the dominion of Charles VIII of France. It is a casino card game similar to Faro and Basset. The different versions of the game are baccarat banque (or a deux tableaux), baccarat chemin de fer (railway), and punto banco (or North American baccarat). Baccarat banque and baccarat chemin requires experience and intelligence to play. Baccarat Chemin de fer is the original version of the game baccarat and is popular in France. This game is named so because the cards in this game used an iron box. In the Baccarat banque three packs of cards are shuffled together and the position of banker is permanent unlike in Baccarat Chemin de fer. On contrary to these two punto banco is a game of chance which does not require any strategy or special technique. In this game casino itself banks the game and player may bet on either player or banker. Baccarat game is played with three possible results only. The results in the game are Player, Banker and Tie. Player and banker are the options for customer on which they can bet. Banker doesn't direct to house and Player doesn't direct to customer.

Versions of  Baccarat:
1. Mini-baccarat : It is very similar to baccarat but played on smaller table like blackjack table. There is only one dealer who handle the entire game even the cut and shuffle of cards are being handled by him only. Mini-baccarat is much faster than Baccarat. This is the only version of baccarat that is available in mostly casinos except Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

2. Makccarat : This was the updated version of the game Baccarat which was played in Macau. The rules and shuffling cards order was different from the Baccarat but the scoring system was same as baccarat. This game was terminated in 2008.
